Two Ridge Extraction Methods for Portal Imaging

In this paperan existing ridge detectorbasedon theHessiantensoranda new onebasedon thestructure tensorare evaluatedfor usein portal/simulator imaging. Tensorsmoothingis introducedasa scaling parameter . By changingthis scale(as opposed to theimagescale)thedetectorscanbetunedto suppressspuriousridgeswithoutmoving them.Desirable ridgedetectorpropertiesfor portal/simulatorimaging aredescribedandthe ridge definitionsaretestedaccordingly. Experimentsshow our new ridgedetector to outperformtheexistingonein simulator/portalimagematching.
