Economic and Environmental Assessment of Remanufacturing in the Automotive Industry

This paper introduces the current state of the art and provides perspectives to the future of the automotive remanufacturing enterprise, with a particular emphasis on key vehicle components which are currently remanufactured. Specifically, the paper identifies typical business structures of remanufacturing companies and their product portfolios. Attention is given to the remanufacturing of automotive parts e.g. calipers, starter motors, alternators, CV joints, and compressors in the UK, Germany, France, and USA. A comparative economic and environmental analysis is provided for international remanufacturing markets. The results provide a baseline for evaluating the future growth of remanufacturing activities in the automotive components sector.
