Enhancing Doppler estimation via newton interpolation for automotive FMCW radars

For automotive radars, FMCW (frequency modulated continuous wave) waveform with fast-ramp train and 2D-FFT (fast Fourier transformation) are widely used because they detect and resolve the range and Doppler information of multi-targets without ambiguity. This paper presents a measurement scheme that can obtain more accurate Doppler information of the target by applying Newton interpolation to the selected FFT values. Note that the proposed scheme is applied after performing 2-D FFT. Compared to the FFT scheme without using interpolation, it is shown that more accurate Doppler information of the target is obtained by the proposed scheme through simulation.
