An analysis of circular waveguide Rotary Joint design with coupling TM01 mode

This paper describes a theoretical and experimental analysis of a U-style Rotary Joint design. A rotary joint of this type is commonly used for mechanically scanned of the radar beam in azimuth or elevation. It contains two TE10-to-TM01 mode converters and rotary choke between a rectangular waveguide and a circular waveguide, it will carry high power and permit low VSWR and low insertion loss operation through-out the full rotation. The theory design and characteristics of such a joint are presented.
