Performance Analysis of Dynamic Resource Allocation withChannel De-allocation/Re -allocation

Resource allocation isa critical issue thatdeter- minesthequality ofservice ofGSM voice calls andGPRSdata packet transmissions inanintegrated GSMIGPRSnetwork. In thispaper, we investigate dynamic resource allocation schemes employing channel de-allocation (DAS)andre-allocation (RAS) schemesinsucha network. An analytic modelwithgeneral GPRS datachannel requirement isdeveloped toevaluate the performance oftheschemesintermsoftheGSM voicecall blocking probability, GPRS datapacketdropping probability, average GPRSdatapacket transmission time, channel utilization andsystemaward.Ourresults indicate thatRAS canconsider- ablyimprove thesystemperformance bycombing different DAS strategies. I.INTRODUCTION Inanintegrated GSMIGPRSnetwork, theGSM voice calls andGPRSpacket services share thesamephysical channels. Toensure therequired quality ofservice (QoS)ofvoice calls anddataservices, acareshould betaken toallocate theradio channels totheGSM voice calls andGPRSpacket requests effectively. Accommodation oftheheterogeneous services atasufficient level ofquality requires particularly sophisticated strategies
