A simplified control algorithm for wind-power battery charger

In this paper, a simplified control algorithm for wind-power battery charger is proposed. The wind-power battery charger is connected to a permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind power generation system for converting an unregulated variable frequency AC power into a regulated DC power. In the proposed control algorithm, a feedforward control of output current for PMSG is used to replace the conventional feedback control to control the wind-power battery charger. The feedforward control based wind-power battery charger operates as a virtual resistor connected with PMSG. The proposed control algorithm can avoid the calculation of the reference signal and the design of complicated current controller. Besides, a novel maximum power point tracking (MPPT) method is also incorporated in the control algorithm to extract the maximum power of PMSG based wind power generation system. Computer simulation is carried out to verify the performance of the proposed small wind power generation system. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed method is as expected.
