P‐21: Extremely Compact High‐Performance HMDs Based on Substrate‐Guided Optical Element

A novel technology is presented which facilitates the design and fabrication of extremely compact light-guide optical elements (LOE) for, among other applications, head-mounted displays. The technology enables the achievement of very wide fields-of view (FOVs), together with relatively large eye-motion-box values, see-through capability (even for daylight conditions), full color performance and diffraction-limited optical quality.
