Design of CPW fed U-shaped antenna for cognitive radio applications

In this paper we propose a CPW fed U shaped reconfigurable antenna for cognitive radio application. The reconfigurability in frequency is obtained by connecting the switches in the basic antenna by use of pin diodes. By controlling the switches the antenna can be operated at different frequencies. The antenna is designed to resonate at different frequencies at UWB band and it is investigated by use of the method of moment's design software. The proposed antenna is simulated using the method of moment's software IE3D (version 15) and analyzed some performances of the proposed antenna and the result shows that the proposed antenna is a perfect entrant for cognitive radio application. The proposed antenna has substantial merits like low profile, miniaturization, lower return loss, better impedance matching and high gain.
