An Improved Oxidative Cleavage Method for Large Scale Preparation of Some Acid-Labile Aglycones from Glycosides

A prac ti cal method for large-scale prep a ra tion of acid-labile aglycones in clud ing protopanaxadiol, protopanaxatriol, cycloastragenol, and jujubogenin from the cor re spond ing glycoside con tain ing frac tion was de vel oped. The key point of this im proved method is to gen er ate and main tain the crit i cal re ac tion con di tions, an hy drous and strongly ba sic, in situ. This ef fort over comes the weak ness of the re ported method for ox i da tive cleav age of glycones and scales up the prep a ra tion of these acid-labile aglycones for fur ther stud ies.
