Improving Sensitivity and Spectral Efficiency in Direct-Detection Optical OFDM Systems

Analysis and simulations show that boosting the carrier power relative to the sideband just prior to photodetection, using an optical filter, will significantly increase the sensitivity and spectral efficiency of direct-detection optical orthogonal frequency-division multiplexed systems.
