Guidelines for design of electromagnetically coupled microstrip patch antennas on two-layer substrates

Graphical guidelines for design of electromagnetically coupled square and circular microstrip antennas are given. Substrates composed of two different dielectric layers are considered. The analysis is extended to electrically thick substrates. Given the required resonant frequency and the bandwidth, material parameters are selected. Patch dimension and the optimal position of the feed line are obtained from the provided graphs. The design data were computed by applying the method of moments in the spectral domain to solve the integral equation for the currents on the patch and portion of the microstrip feed line. The integral equation was formulated using the appropriate dyadic Green function for the grounded multilayered slab. >
