Recent Advances in Optical Processing Techniques Using Highly Nonlinear Bismuth Oxide Fiber

We report our recent studies on nonlinear processing of optical signals using a 35-cm highly nonlinear bismuth oxide fiber (Bi-NLF). Our findings are based on self-phase modulation, cross-phase modulation, and four-wave mixing in the Bi-NLF. We demonstrate applications of the nonlinear techniques in optical signal regeneration, tunable optical delay, stabilization of multiwavelength laser source, tunable optical pulse generation, microwave photonic carrier frequency multiplication, and all-optical wavelength conversion.
