Evaluation of the Proposal of a Spatial Data Infrastructure in Bahia, Brazil

This paper aims to discuss the potential and major restrictions on the use of geographic data from its availability in a Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI), to evaluate the model and access policy proposed for a SDI in the state of Bahia -- Brazil. Given a model of SDI composed of data and metadata, technology, norms and standards, institutional policy and actors, it can concluded that, despite the SDI-BAHIA propose geospatial data of interest and technology and standardization in accordance with others SDI in the world, their definitions, policies and effective participation of stakeholders still demand even greater level of detail and commitment to enable that its implementation occurs and is actually useful to enable wider access to information by users and society.
