Curve fitting of photoemission spectra with physically realistic subspectra

A curve‐fitting routine, based on nonlinear iterative least‐squares optimization, for photoemission spectra is described in which theoretical or empirical relations between spectral parameters can easily be included. The advantage of the method is that the calculated fits are automatically acceptable from the viewpoint of physics, provided that the correct conditions have been formulated. The procedure is illustrated with a photoemission spectrum of xenon adsorbed on a heterogeneous surface.
