Dissolved Oxygen Control in a Fermentation of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae using an Automatic Tuning PID Controller

Abstract The paper presents an automatic tuning procedure for tuning conventional three term (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controllers. The tuning procedure has been applied to simulations of batch and fed-batch fermentations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Bakers’ Yeast). Additionally, the automatic tuner has been implemented on-line for both types of Bakers’ Yeast fermentation. Results presented compare the operation of a traditionally tuned PID controller with an automatically tuned system.
