ASTRA.BAS: a program in QuickBasic 4.5 for exploring rose diagrams, circular histograms and some alternatives

Abstract Rose diagrams and other circular (angular) histograms are arbitrary with respect to class width and starting position and a researcher's choices can dramatically influence the results. To give researchers as much flexibility as possible in exploring periodic and orientation datasets, besides drawing standard circular histograms, ASTRA.BAS automatically draws rose diagrams at all combinations of class widths and starting positions and it also offers some new alternative depictions, including `corona' and `mean-deviation' dot diagrams. It also examines the possibility of summing all possible rose diagrams as a means of producing a unique and non-arbitrary depiction of orientation data.
