ANALYSIS OF THE EFFECT OF THE SHEARING VELOCITY ON ANISOTROPIC SHEARING UNDRAINED STRENGTH OF CLAYS

Based on the elastic-viscoplastic constitutive relationship, a formula of anistropic undrained shearing strength considering the viscosity effect are deduced. The relationship between shearing velocity (or failure time) and undrained shearing strength are studied in this paper. Then the anisotropy in the velocity dependency of undrained shearing strength is interpreted theoretically. Finally, the computed results are compared to the measured ones from the test to verify the validity of the presented theory.
