Preparative Method:1 in a round-bottomed flask, the mixture of IrCl3·xH2O (10 g) and 1,2,3,4,5-pentamethylcyclopentadiene (5.0 g) in methanol (300 ml) is refluxed under nitrogen for 48 h with stirring. After cooling to room temperature, the orange precipitate is collected by filtration, washed with diethyl ether, and dried in vacuo. Purification: recrystallization from CHCl3/hexane. Handling, Storage, and Precaution: the dry solid can be stored in air at room temperature for months without decomposition.
