Smart control by smart sensors and actuators for a thin flexible structure

This paper intends to emphasise the importance of control techniques employing piezoelectric devices coupled with fuzzy logic strategies in order to eliminate vibrations in dynamic flexible systems. In particular a control scheme for a thin flexible plate in which piezoelectric sensors and actuators are used, is presented. Several details on the hardware, electronic and mechanical implementation are given. The model of the system has been identified by using experimental measurements. A comparison between a classical control scheme and a fuzzy approach is presented by means of several experimental tests.
