Comparative study of Encroaching satin stitch and Parallel long and short stitch in modern folk embroidered costume

Modern folk clothing is not only a material carrier for embroidery technique,but an important research foundation for it.On the basis of observation,statistics and analysis of modern folk embroidered costumes that were collected by Shanghai ″Song of Winds″ Museum and Shen Shou Embroidery Institute in Nantong,the encroaching satin stitch and parallel long and short stitch were mainly studied.The two stitches were compared through related theories knowledge in order to explore the difference and linkages between them in the aspects of production process and expression effects.Then the two stitches′ restriction,specialty and synthesis were further analyzed in the way of expression from color and fabric and so on.This study has practical significance for inheriting valuable Chinese traditional craftsmanship,and also has reference significance for embroidery decoration technique for fashion design today.
