Automotive door seal has the function of isolating dust, rain, noise and vibration from outside of a car. The basic requirement of door seal is a good sealing and minimizing door closing effort. The closing effort mainly depends on the reaction force of seal part. At designing stage, finite element analysis can be available to predict the reaction force of the seal. By now, most of simulation on seal part has been conducted with implicit code, but the analyses are restricted to simple shaped or 2 dimensional cross section of door seal. In the case that the model is too huge and time efficiency is important, the analysis using explicit code is much more effective in the aspect of accuracy and computational effort. In this paper, as the pre-study prior to full door closing simulation using explicit code, two selected parts of automotive seal was analyzed. Then, the quality and efficiency of the result by explicit method was compared with that by implicit method.
