This research studies thefailure ratesandoutage causesofelectrical componentsofdistribution systemsin Thailand. Theelectrical components indistribution systems are divided intosixgroupsincluding overhead lines, underground lines, protective equipments, powertransformers, distribution transformers, andcapacitors. Thefailure rates ofeachgroupare calculated fromtheProvincial Electricity Authority (PEA) database containing morethan600,000 outageeventsduring 2001-2005. Suchdataalsoindicate thecausesofoutages, for example, trees, animals, naturedisasters, humans, whichare foundrelative tothegeography ofthecountry. Fromtheresults, itcanbeconcluded thatthedistribution systems onthelocations different ingeography canyield avariation inthefailure rate.
