A New Paradigm for Parameterization in Atmospheric Models: Application to the New Fu-Liou Radiation Code

An improved end clamp for a multi-strand aramid rope has an outer sleeve formed with an internal bore having a taper of between 11/4 degrees and 13/4 degrees. A tapered wedging plug having a taper of between 21/4 degrees and 23/4 degrees is inserted into the sleeve bore and compresses separated equi-spaced strands of the rope therebetween in essentially tangential contact. An annular clearance space is formed between the larger end of the sleeve bore and the larger end of the tapered plug and has an area substantially equal to or slightly less than the area of the aramid material of the rope whereby the separated strands of the rope are in abutting engagement throughout the annular clearance space to increase the holding capability of the clamp. The ratio of the tapered plug length to the diameter of the uncompressed rope varies from about 9 to 1 and 11 to 1.
