Study on volume minimizing design principle in CSCD

Minimum volume design is traditionally used as an optimization method which is based on objectives, design variables and constraint conditions, rather than a guiding principle that can promote the creative design. According to the tendency of modern design and the former optimization design of minimum volume, this paper proposes a new volume minimizing design principle(VMDP) in computer supported collaborative design (CSCD). The aim of VMDP is to excavate human being¿s design wisdom and creative ability of manufacture and design maximally, to excavate the material¿s properties and potential abilities maximally. The essence of VMDP is to realize that the product¿s units and subunits occupy the minimal volume while their functions and capacities are maximum in unit volume, the products will be manufactured with the least material resources while they have the benefits of green design and manufacture. According to binary inference feedback algorithm, the optimization theory and mathematical model of the volume minimizing design principle in guiding the design process are developed.
