The invention relates to a detection method for the longitudinal tearing of a conveying belt, which is characterized in that a material leakage detecting device is arranged at a detecting region below the conveying belt, a wireless signal is transmitted in the detecting region by the material leakage detecting device to detect whether a material falls or not, and when the conveying belt is torn and the material is leaked to the detecting region from a torn opening, the leaked material is captured by the transmitted wireless signal of the material leakage detecting device to judge that the conveying belt is torn. The wireless signal is one of an ultrasonic wave, an optical signal and an electromagnetic wave. The detection method can be used for detecting the longitudinal tearing of the conveying belt by utilizing a non-contact type detecting means. The method has the advantages of simple principle structure and reliable functions and can avoid the problems of missing report, false report, and the like brought by a contact type measuring method.
