Solving a distribution problem with side constraints

Abstract This paper presents a real life distribution case study. The problem relates to the distribution of a bottled product through a 3-stage logistics system. The new wrinkle is to incorporate truck scheduling constraints instead of using standard full cost. This allows for a trade-off analysis of different truck operating systems. The cost optimization problem can be viewed as a capacitated plant location problem complicated with general linear ‘side’ constraints.
