SOLVENT EXTRACTION OF NITRIC, HYDROCHLORIC AND SULFURIC ACID AND THEIR URANYL SALTS WITH TRI-n-OCTYLPHOSPHINE OXIDE

The equilibrium constants of the extraction of nitric, hydrochloric and sulfuric acid and their uranyl salts with tri-n-octylphosphine oxide (TOPO), dissolved in different diluents, have been determined. The extraction constants obtained have been correlated with the corresponding dissociation constants of the mineral acids used. The more mineral acid is dissociated, the fewer undissociated molecules of acid are available and, as a consequence, the extraction process is less pronounced. 12 refs., 1 fig., 5 tabs.
