Raman scattering investigation of structural transformations in solid solutions based on zirconium and hafnium dioxides

Raman scattering was used to study single crystals of solid solutions based on zirconium and hafnium dioxides containing various stabilizing impurities (Gd/sub 2/O/sub 3/, Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/, or Yb/sub 2/O/sub 3/). An analysis of the Raman spectra yielded the relation between the structure of the crystals and the concentration and type of the stabilizing impurity. The behavior of vibrational spectra in mixed crystals of this type is discussed.
