Node placement for localization networks

Wireless network localization (WNL) is a paradigm proposed recently for providing reliable location services. The localization performance is highly dependent on the placement of nodes in the network. In this paper, we study the node placement problem for localization networks. We first propose a mathematical formulation of the node placement problem. Such a formulation takes into account the uncertainty in the position of the placed nodes as well as the constraints on the region where the nodes can be deployed. Based on this formulation, we propose a near-optimal node placement algorithm, and present an upper bound on the gap between its performance with that of the optimal placement strategy. The proposed algorithm is validated by numerical results.
