Ultrasound pancreas segmentation: a new approach towards detection of diabetes mellitus

This paper proposes an approach of segmentation of ultrasound pancreas image via level set method for detection of diabetes mellitus. From previous research, diabetes mellitus can affect the pancreas size where the pancreas tends to be smaller compared to normal pancreas. Therefore, this method is implemented to subdivide the ultrasound image into the region of interest (pancreas). The level set proposed method based on variational formulation without re-initialization process. Due to the imaging technique is still unable to show clearly the edge of the interest region. Thus, Gabor Filter is used to increase the image quality and reduce the noise of the image. Based on the result, it shows that the segmentation of ultrasound pancreas image have been successfully done for its size measurement purpose.
