Abstract Autonomous navigation of constellation has the advantages of auto-operation without ground station, enhancement of availability in war etc. In accordance with the high precision requirement of navigation, research about influences on the navigation performance is of great significance. Based upon the inter satellite range, the autonomous orbit determination (AOD) using nonlinear filter and the autonomous time synchronization (ATS) which estimates the clock phase deviation, frequency deviation and the frequency drift are fully analyzed. In the paper, the navigation performance influenced by the ATS is discussed and number of measurement and failure of satellite which influence the navigation precision are studied. The obtained conclusion is significantly important for the application of autonomous navigation techniques.
