Simulator of Interferometric Radar Altimeters: Concept and first Results

To improve further its understanding of mesoscale ocean variability, the oceanographic community needs to observe the ocean at higher spatial and temporal resolution than what is presently achieved by classical nadir radar altimeters. The interferometric radar altimeter (InRA) is an attempt to meet this requirement using a single platform., We have developed an advanced simulator allowing the overall assessment of sea-surface effects (wind, wave, current) and instrument errors (thermal noise, baseline roll, antenna depointing) on the altimetric estimation performance.
