Objective evaluation correlated with human judgment - an approach to the optimisation of vehicle handling control system

A comprehensive objective evaluation function for vehicle handling is developed and verified by driving simulator tests performed by a group of drivers. A number of different types of individual evaluation indices for composing the objective evaluation function are given based on the Preview-Followed Theory. A series of weighting factors corresponding to individual evaluation indexes are found by using the Genetic Algorithm to reach the best agreement between the objective evaluation and the average of subjective evaluation of the drivers. As application of the objective evaluation method, some examples of optimization of vehicle handling control systems, such as four wheel steering system, yaw rate feedback and steering angle feed forward steering control system as well as the optimization of roll steering coefficient etc, are presented.
