The use of microcomputers in the analysis of piles subjected to lateral loads and bending moments

Abstract A simple numerical procedure for the solution of the non-linear differential equation ∂ 4 u ∂z 4 +f(u, z) = 0 is presented. Such an equation with the appropriate boundary conditions is often encountered in the analysis of piles subjected to lateral loads and bending moments. The method is suitable for application using a microcomputer of limited memory capacity and the extension of the procedure to cover the solution to the equation ▽ 4 +f(u, y) = 0 which governs the mode of deformation of slab-on-grades is possible and straight-forward.
