HDTV broadcasting systems

A brief overview of HDTV broadcasting in the USA, Japan, and Europe is given. The requirements for HDTV broadcast systems are examined. The issue of compatibility is discussed. Standardization activities for HDTV broadcasting are described. The Japanese MUSE (multiple sub-Nyquist sampling encoding) system and the European HD-MAC (high-definition multiplexed analog components) systems are examined with respect to their technical basis, underlying principle, and coding/decoding.<<ETX>>
