Networks and partnerships in the evolution of home banking

IT and various other technologies are being deployed to deliver financial services to the home. ‘Home banking’ is a techno-economic network which is currently being constituted. The development of three technology-based remote delivery channels — telephone banking and fmancial services, PC banking, and interactive TV — is described, using actor-network theory. Inter-firm partnerships and alliances are shown to play a prominent role in the process of translation of these complex and systemic innovations.
