Smart camera network system for use in railway stations

We have proposed and demonstrated a smart camera network system which provides a cost-effective, reliable, and robust surveillance system. Each smart camera can autonomously analyze human behavior and recognize suspicious actions in real time. The cooperative smart cameras communicate with each other over a wireless mesh network and enable us to track suspicious behavior through multiple cameras' fields of view. In addition, the communication between cameras provides one of the solutions of a privacy problem. We developed three basic techniques: understanding human behavior, communication between cooperative cameras, and wireless mesh network terminals. We integrated them into the system. We also demonstrated tracking of suspicious behavior across multiple cameras at a full-scale simulated station building.
