High performance chipless RFID reader based on IR-UWB technology

This paper presents a potentially low cost high performance chipless RFID reader based on impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) technology. Moreover it could be easily compliant with the European (ETSI) and North American (FCC) regulations in terms of UWB technology. The reader has been designed around the equivalent time concept in order to reduce its realization cost. The design approach is similar to an IR radar approach. Reading results of depolarizing chipless RFID tags are presented and compared with the same obtained with an expensive wideband digital signal oscilloscope.
