Affordable System Conceptual Structure Design of New Deployable Spaceborne Antenna

Affordability is now becoming an important consideration in space applications, hence new kinds of large deployable mesh reflectors are being considered and used recently. Aimed for affordable satellite communications, a system conceptual structure design of a new deployable spaceborne antenna is proposed, which is mainly based on a folded fixed truss hoop reflector. Through analysis and simulation, this new structure is shown to have both good mechanical performance and good electromagnetic performance. It is a potentially good selection for future affordable deployable antennas in satellite communications.
