RF Propagation Measurements Using a Mobile Receiver System

A mobile receiver system was developed under the Air Force Spectrum Transition Plan1 as part of an effort to model propagation loss accurately over a variety of terrain and environmental conditions. In this paper, we describe the mobile receiver system and discuss how it was used to measure received power spectra and transmit antenna radiation patterns from an Air Force Satellite Control Network (AFSCN) tracking station. The transmitter and receiver setup, along with the measurement methodology are discussed in further detail.
