A Mobile Application for a Smart Home Ecosystem

Smart home ecosystems aim to adapt to users' needs and preferences and provide comfort and improved quality of life. Users need access to efficient and effective applications in order to interact with such environments. The target of this paper is to present a mobile application designed and created to support end user interaction with smart home ecosystems; this application is capable of adapting to any smart home, regardless of this architecture and the devices used. We followed a user first design thinking approach to design the user experience of this application and we deployed it on the infrastructure of the Ambient Assisted Living Laboratory, AAL House. Users via our application can monitor sensors and devices, define their routine preferences and view data on energy consumption. In order to study the acceptance and performance of our application, a survey was conducted using a questionnaire.
