Study on the detrapping of charge carriers in polythylene films

Polyethylene films were studied by photo-stimulated discharge (PSD) and thermally stimulated current (TSC) to understand the detrapped process and the energy spectrum distribution of trap of space charges. The space charge profiles were determined in real time by the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) technique. The results showed that the activation energy estimated from the non-isothermal TSC and PSD was quite different, it was at 0.77eV in TSC, meanwhile that was between 4.80-5.90eV from PSD. The effect of thermal erosion of traps was further clarified and Photo-stimulated discharge can more truly characterize the intrinsic properties of trap of the polymer.
