COST-EFFECTIVENESS AND SAFETY ALTERNATIVE ROADWAY DELINEATION TREATMENTS FOR RURAL TWO-LANE HIGHWAYS: VOLUME I--EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Under this research study, the effect of various delineation treatments on accident rates was assessed by analyzing accident data from more than 500 roadway sites in 10 States for tangent, winding and isolated horizontal curve sections on two-lane rural highways. Cost-benefit and cost models for evaluating specific delineation treatments were developed and guidelines formulated by executing the cost-benefit models for selected delineation treatments. This Volume briefly presents an overview of the conduct of the study and results of the final report. /FHWA/
