A Study on Decoding of Serially Concatenated Codes with RLL Codes and RS Codes in OOK Modulated Systems

In this paper. an efficient decoding of serially concatenated codes with run-length limited (RLL) codes and Reed-Solomon (RS) codes are proposed in on-off keying (OOK) modulation systems. The soft information from the channel is soft decoded by the RLL decoder, then soft output from RLL decoder is the input of soft RS decoder. By comparing with general hard RLL decoding, our proposed algorithm efficiently take use of the information which affected by the noise from the channel. Simulation results show that our algorithm has bit error rate (BER) performance 2dB better than conventional hard RLL decoding.
