Distributed amplifiers: survey of the effects of lumped-transmission-line design on performance

A survey of the effects of lumped-transmission-line design on the performance of distributed amplifiers is presented. A general formula for the gain of a distributed amplifier using nonuniform lines, but with image-impedance match at each connection, is given. The general formula for gain reduces to all the special formulas derived in the literature under assumed constraints in the network structure, and these results are tabulated. In order to make the paper more useful to research workers, an extensive bibliography of contributions related to distributed amplification is included.
