Pseudo Noun Phrase Coordination

Nunes (2001) observes a contrast between Brazilian Portuguese (BP) and English in the possible interpretations of strings of the form P-NP-and-(P)-NP. These constructions are notable because they appear to involve the coordination of NPs or PPs. Surprisingly, what appear to be coordinated NPs/PPs can yield interpretations that are not like the conjunction of the interpretations of individual NPs/PPs, but are instead similar to the conjunction of the interpretations of VPs or clauses.
