Optical Properties and Reorientation of M Centers in NaF

The reorientation efficiency of M centers in NaF is found to be proportional to the M+ concentration, suggesting that M centers reorient via an M+ mechanism, as in KCl. In this mechanism light is first absorbed in the higher transitions of the M centers causing them to ionize, and then in the higher transitions of the M+ centers causing them to reorient. The higher transitions of both the M and the M+ center are identified. In addition, a new absorption band at 516 nm giving rise to emission at 680 nm, seen in lithium-doped samples, is tentatively identified as due to the lithium MA center. Es wird festgestellt, das die Umorientierungswirksamkeit der It-Zentren in NaF proportional zum M+ Gehalt ist, was darauf hinweist, das die M-Zentren durch einen M+ Mechanismus umorientiert werden, ebenso wie in KCI. In diesem Mechanismus erfolgt die Licht-absorption zuerst in den hoheren Ubergangen der M+ Zentren, die dadurch ionisiert werden, und dann in den hoheren Ubergiingen der M+ Zentren, die dadurch umorientiert werden. Die hoheren Ubergange des M+ und des M+ Zentrums werden identifiziert. Auserdem wird eine neue, bei 516 nm in Lithium-dotierten Proben beobachtete Absorptionsbande, die Emission bei 680 nm verursacht, vorliiufig dem Lithium-MA Zentrum zugeschrieben.
