Experimental study on limiting operation of superconducting fault current limiter in double circuit transmission line model system

Superconducting fault current limiters (SCFCLs) are expected to improve the reliability of power systems. To introduce SCFCLs in power systems, the accuracy of the trigger current level is necessary. Therefore, an SCFCL with adjustable trigger current level was proposed and made. Limiting tests of the SCFCLs are carried out by use of an artificial transmission line with a synchronous generator. In this paper, the results of current limiting operation and some considerations are described. It is confirmed that the SCFCLs can select the fault phases and the transient stability is improved by the limiting operation of the SCFCLs.
