Numerical Simulation Analysis of the External Flow Field of Automotive Trailing a Container Truck

By employing the Computer Fluid Dynamics(CFD) software to simulate the process of a car trailing a large truck,the aerodynamic drag coefficient and the aerodynamic lift coefficient of the car in the process of trailing were obtained.The result showed that the aerodynamic drag coefficient gradually slowed down with the decrease of the distance between the two autos,and why the aerodynamic drag coefficient arrived at the minimum when the distance was two times of the car length,while the aerodynamic drag coefficient increased with the further reduction of the distance.Moreover,the result explained that the aerodynamic lift coefficient increased with the reduction of the distance when the distance was less than two times of the car length,and when the distance was equal to the car length,the aerodynamic lift coefficient was two times of the car driving alone.The conclusion that the oil consumption of the car could save 13.7% with the resistance coefficient at the minimum was obtained.
