Abstract The chemistry of the primary brines for halites from the upper part of the Wieliczka deposit and the clayey salt (zuber) unit of the Bochnia deposit has been investigated. The results evidenced that the brines belong to the Na K Mg Cl SO 4 type and the proportion of the ions was similar tothe concentration in recent seawaters but depleted in S04 ion.
